    • One bridesmaid took to Reddit to share that her friend, the bride, requested that she dye her hair for the wedding.
    • The Reddit user currently has red hair; however, the bride chose red bridesmaid dresses and asked her to change her hair color before the big day.
    • Other users weighed in with suggestions on how to handle the situation.

Sometimes, being a bridezilla on your wedding day is just a rite of passage. Every bride is entitled to have preferences or want things a certain way on their special day, but, how far is too far? One bridesmaid is asking herself, and Reddit, that question after her longtime friend requested that she dye her hair for her wedding.

One user, under the name final6666, took to the /bridezilla subReddit to share a text exchange between her, a bridesmaid, and her childhood friend, the bride. The text exchange shows a message (presumably from the bride) that reads, “I mean to mention this and forgot…. Bridesmaid dresses are going to be a bright, deep red so you may want to go back to black for a short amount of time. Sorry to fuck up your PUNK ROCK LOOK.”

A bride asked one of her bridesmaids to dye her hair for her wedding.

The next slide in her post contains another screengrab from her conversation with the bride, featuring another string of texts.

“The other day we were at her place and she’s like asking about the wedding and what we’ve decided so far and she was like COMPLAINING about why I want red dresses for the bridesmaids like going on about how she hates red and hates wearing red and she looks terrible in it blah blah blah,” the first text reads.”

The bride followed that message up with, “And as a subtle ‘shut up’ I mentioned how [redacted] will probably have to dye her hair and she’s on board with that.”

The bridesmaid took to Reddit to express her frustrations.

In her caption, the bridesmaid, who currently has red hair, shared her feelings about the request to get “some outside perspectives.”

“One of my old, very close friends is getting married next year. Over the past couple of years, though, the way she talks to me has changed she can come off really harsh or dismissive, and it’s gotten to the point where I sometimes feel like I’m walking on eggshells around her,” she wrote. “I’ve been trying to put those feelings aside so I can be supportive during her wedding, but a recent exchange is sticking with me.”

The bridesmaid went on to explain that the bride made fun of her bright red hair before telling her sister that she had agreed to dye it to her natural color, black, though, she reportedly never agreed to do so.

“It just felt like she was making decisions about me without asking, and that rubbed me the wrong way,” she continued. “I don’t want to be dramatic, but I’m starting to feel like maybe I should still attend her wedding but not be a bridesmaid. I would never ask my friends to change how they look for my big day, especially something as personal as their hair. Am I overthinking this?”

The bride asked her friend to change her hair shade because of the color of the bridesmaids dresses.

One Reddit user commented that she should stand her ground and and tell the bride that she thought it was a joke and that she would not be dying her hair. “Wait for her next move,” the user advised. “When she says ‘No, I meant it,’ you tell her you’re declining.”

Another commenter recounted how they shut down a similar situation by telling the bride the cost of the salon trip and requesting that she pay it. “I got mine to stop with ‘the color correction from blue back to a brunette that isn’t green starts at $300 at a salon if you are willing to pay we can book it!’ We did not book it.”

A hairdresser even weighed in about the potential damage it could cause to her hair. “As a hairdresser you can’t really just go back from black with any kind of integrity left in your hair. She doesn’t sound like a good friend.”
