- The Kansas City Chiefs’ first preseason game is on August 9, and ahead of the first snap of the 2025 season, the team’s star tight end is getting ready—right down to his haircut.
- Travis Kelce—who has spent most of the offseason with longer brown hair—debuted a fresh buzz cut on July 27.
- So notable was Kelce’s hair transformation that the NFL and the Chiefs posted about it in a collaboration post on Instagram on Sunday.
As Travis Kelce gears up for his upcoming NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs—rumored by some to potentially be his last—gone are the luscious long locks he’s been sporting in the offseason.
Kelce’s game day buzz cut is back, notable enough to warrant a mention via a joint Instagram post between the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs. “Fresh cut Trav 😮💨,” the joint post read on July 27, which shows a shot of Kelce’s new—but familiar—football season hairstyle from behind, Kelce in his Chiefs jersey as he and the team trained.
Kelce recently shared a glimpse into his offseason with girlfriend of two years Taylor Swift; People reported that the singer-songwriter is “really looking forward” to supporting Kelce and the Chiefs for the third season in a row, “not just because she loves supporting Travis, but because for the first full season since they started dating, she’s not juggling a packed tour schedule.”
It’s true—the 2025 NFL season will be the first since the couple began dating in 2023 that Swift won’t have competition for her time in the form of her Eras Tour, which wrapped last year. Recent months have been an offseason of sorts, not just for Kelce, but for Swift, too; Kelce shared a rare photo dump of himself and Swift to capture their last few months, which was “his way of showing how serious things have become,” a source told People, adding that the couple is in a “really solid place and more in sync than ever.”

Kelce’s photo dump included 13 pictures of Kelce, and seven of the snaps featured Swift, including with their arms around one another on a boat, on a trip to Montana, and posing alongside several mutual friends. Kelce’s lock screen is also visible, which features a black and white photo of him with Swift.
“Had some adventures this offseason, kept it 💯,” Kelce wrote alongside the carousel.
“There’s a calmness and ease to their relationship right now that’s been really grounding for Taylor and Travis,” an insider said.
As Kelce prepares for the Chiefs’ first preseason game on August 9, the Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid said Kelce, who plays tight end for the team, “looks like he’s 20,” praising his offseason transformation that has seen Kelce drop 25 pounds.

On July 24, Reid said Kelce was “in great shape” and is “svelte right now”: “He’s doing a great job,” Reid said. “He’s in great shape. And I’m not sure—he didn’t come in first during the whole conditioning thing, [but] he was right up front.”
“You can see he’s been working out,” Reid continued. “You saw him yesterday on the long run where he had the burst. He’s done a nice job. He’s worked hard to get to this spot.”
Kelce confirmed himself on May 12 that he’s lost 25 pounds after the Chiefs’ loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles in February. He’s spent much of the offseason training in Florida, with Swift often joining him.

“This year, I got some time to really focus on some form running and some things early on in the offseason that I just didn’t have time for last year,” Kelce said recently, per Page Six. He added that he was “certainly feeling good,” which he thinks will “pay off in the season,” which, at 35, might be his last. Speaking to the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast on July 1, after being asked point blank if this season will be it for him, Kelce replied, “I mean…it’s the last one on the contract. I’m focused on this one, man.”
“I don’t know what next year’s going to feel like, I don’t know what I’m going to feel like in March or April next year,” he continued of what he might do when it’s time to renew—or not.
