Kate Middleton’s signature hairstyle hasn’t changed all that much–she’s still sporting luscious length and an enviable blowout–but her overall look is strikingly different with the latest color edit. We’ve grown accustomed to Middleton’s rich, uniform, chocolatey brunette over the years, but her new look is much more dimensional: her caramel bronde base features amber, honey, and true-blonde streaks, and her roots are lighter than we’ve ever seen them.
Michelle Cleveland, celebrity hair-extension artist and Wella master color expert, previously described this shade to Glamour as “cozy blonde,” a low-maintenance and approach to a color shift which favors warmth, lowlights and strategic placement and is perfect for fall. Middleton’s latest look also incorporates more root volume and tousled wave texture compared to her previous scores of sleek blowouts. Her ends are styled with a little extra curl, which shows off the depth and warm tone layering that went into her latest coloring treatment.
Middleton’s hair transformation is the latest in a wave of newness for royal family: following the end of Middleton’s chemotherapy treatment, she, William, and their three children are also marking a “fresh start” by moving into a new home. As she marks a new era with lighter updates (literally), we’re cheering the Princess Kate on–and hoping that “blondes have more fun” rings true for her.
