Next time you’re tempted to go braless it might be worth considering one of the best built-in bra tops instead. These gems combine the functionality of a bra with the comfort of a cozy piece of clothing, complete with bra shelves or cups to help support the girls without the need for an extra (and sometimes uncomfortable) wires and layers.
To find out which one will actually, erm, keep everything in place, we chatted with Glamour editors and tested some of the popular options available. Our favorite bra top overall is the Athleta Transcend Scoop Built-In Bra Tank A-C because it’s suitable for workouts, but can also be styled with wide-leg jeans and Sambas. We also found long-sleeve options, bestsellers you can go out on the town in, activewear options and ones for lounging around.

We tested built-in bra tops based on their material, fit, and how comfortable they were to wear all day long. The best ones had breathable, lightweight materials that didn’t feel too tight or snug around the chest, plus comfortable padding and bra shelves that didn’t leave tight marks on our skin (or cut off our circulation, for that matter). Bonus points if they had adjustable straps and padding that stayed in place. The best ones were comfortable to wear all day long and versatile enough to wear to the gym, out and about on errands, and styled for date night.

This scoop neck strappy racerback is at the top of our list because it’s versatile enough to wear to a workout and stylish enough to pair with paired jeans. It has a breathable, moisture-wicking material that keeps you comfortable even if you’re sweating, and has a nice comfortable stretch around the bust.
“This tank top from Athleta is great for lift and support (I’m a 34C) and it nicely smooths like a shapewear bodysuit (without the uncomfortable crotch snaps). I’ve worn it for hiking, long walks, and with long-sleeve button ups for work,” says Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle.
