    Key Takeaways

    • The LoveShackFancy NYFW Spring/Summer 2026 show made use of retro Americana, cool horse girl energy and the softest of soft waves.
    • Hairstylist Brent Lawler shared all the info on the models’ hair—including how to copy the look yourself.

As it turns out, we all have a little bit of the LoveShackFancy girl in us. We’re romantics—especially when The Summer I Turned Pretty is airing—and we like to stay stocked up on Batiste Dry Shampoo.

On Thursday, September 11, LoveShackFancy debuted their new collection as part of New York Fashion Week. The Spring/Summer 2026 show took place at Nine Orchard, and backstage you could find a number of brand signatures: girlie motifs, whimsical looks, and super romantic hairstyles thanks to the show’s lead stylist, Brent Lawler.

When sourcing inspiration for his models’ ‘dos, the artist looked at early 1990s Ralph Lauren campaigns. Imagine beautiful people (or look up the ads, because they’re great) running through meadows or hanging out on an idyllic ranch.

“Admiring the romance, I pictured our girl in Montana with a wild horse,” he told Byrdie. exclusively. Then, he figured out how to turn that energy into a hair style.

“I think it’s very undone. I want it to look effortless and beautiful,” Lawler said. However, the hair still had to look “beautifully textured.” This is LoveShackFancy, after all.

Ahead, the hairstylist tells us all about the show, plus how to get the gorgeous look yourself.

    The Inspiration

According to Lawler, the LoveShackFancy girl is always super fun and high energy. She’s a lover of life who is looking to go out and have fun, but this season she “feels a little bit more sophisticated.”

“Our girl is a tiny little bit more grown up,” he explained. “Usually we do lots of bows and ribbons. There’s fantasy everywhere. But this feels like the inspiration was interjecting a bit of Americana into the LSF girl. I wanted the hair to still be sophisticated but not feel old and dated. I didn’t want it to look like I overtly used a curling iron.”

    The Style

Each time a model sat down in Lawler’s chair, he refreshed her with Batiste Original Dry Shampoo before going in with “a really big, oversized curling wand iron.” He used a mix of Bio Iconic 1.75 inch and 2-inch barrels.

“I’m placing the wand to curl where I see their hair would naturally bend,” he explained while offering us a demonstration. “That way I don’t get a look that looks like she’s been in the bathroom for hours with an iron on. You don’t get what almost looks like a ringlet.”

The universal vision, then, was to enhance a very soft wave and end up with a flat curl (not barrel, despite the tool at work!) and straighter ends.

“It’s much less beachy. It feels more lived in. It just feels cooler and fresher,” he added. “The clothes have a lot of lace and sort of vintage feeling with hints of cowboys and American western. If that gets tipped into the curls being too tight, that looks [too] sophisticated, and then it’s going to look old. It’s not gonna look cool, and the LoveShackFancy girl still is a cool girl.”

    Get the Look

Lawler’s best advice for anyone looking to get the look is to make sure you have dry shampoo on hand. It’s been his “ultimate fashion week hack” forever.

“Back in the old days I used Clairol, but probably 10 years ago I discovered Batiste which is my absolute favorite formula,” he said. “It’s great too, because models during fashion week have done sometimes five shows before they sit in my chair, so it’s perfect to get a blank canvas.”

After the initial spritz and the large-barrel curl creation, the artist sprayed Batiste Original right at the roots and made his way down to the mid-lengths.

“I do want to give it volume, body, and texture,” he noted. His next step was to brush through “for that really lived-in look” and add in small, piece-y braids before securing them with clear Goody Polybands.

If you’re following along and scared of all the spraying, don’t worry—your part won’t look powdery. As long as you follow Lawler’s tips, which include not applying dry shampoo directly to it. Instead, lift the top layer of your hair and spray your dry shampoo underneath. You’ll can still tackle the crown, but you’re attacking from underneath and in-between layers.

The last step? Massaging it in for his “perfect cool girl texture.” Yes, “LoveShackFancy girl and “cool girl” can be used interchangeably.
