Take a lightweight scarf, for instance. Lately, I’ve been wearing my cashmere-silk blend scarf from Chan Luu as a beach cover-up and a mini skirt. But come fall and winter, it’ll become a chic “third piece” to layer over a skirt or a pair of trousers. And, yes, sometimes I might even wear it around my neck—groundbreaking.

The crochet trend has been everywhere these past couple of summers. This Missoni poncho (a gem I found at a Toronto consignment store) has done the rounds beachside. But after pairing it with a feminine midi skirt, I realized that it can function well beyond any shore. Add a tee underneath and a blazer on top, and suddenly, you’ve got yourself an appropriate uniform for the creative workplace.

Your one-piece swimsuit can double as a bodysuit. Classic black is a no-brainer, but look to textured or printed swimwear to add visual interest to your outfits. Toteme’s smocked one-piece has been a go-to for me. Thankfully, it’s long-torso friendly, and I love the Monarch butterfly colorway.
