Careful who you let see all your dirty little secrets.…
The Housemaid is the next project for director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, A Simple Favor), and we’re already going full Crazy Wall with our theories. The film is based on the best-selling novel by Freida McFadden and stars two of the hottest actors of the moment, Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. Simply put, it’s the story of a young woman who becomes the live-in housekeeper for a wealthy family and gets more than she bargained for when she begins witnessing strange and dark events in their home.
Here’s what we know about the movie…
Who is in the cast?
Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, matriarch of the house. Sweeney is Millie, a woman with secrets of her own, looking for a way to escape her past. The cast also features Elizabeth Perkins, Brandon Skelnar, who appeared as Atlas Corrigan in It Ends With Us, and Michele Morrone, from Another Simple Favor.
According to Deadline, the two stars also executive produce.
What do we know from the trailer?
Um, so much. First of all, the Sabrina Carpenter needle drop? Released on September 16, the trailer is set to “Please, Please, Please,” which is about a man cheating on a woman, but more so about begging someone to act correct, so make of that what you will. The clips we get from the movie seem to hint that Seyfried’s character is, to put it mildly, unstable, and that there’s something deeply off about her dynamic with her husband. The daughter definitely knows more than she’s letting on, and what’s with the creepy dollhouse?
Then there’s the final shot, which shows Sweeney discarding her eyeglasses as she drives away after interviewing for the housemaid position. Apparently Millie was putting on the “nice girl” attitude to get the job, applying with some ulterior motive (who “just loves being a housemaid,” anyway?), and is already disgusted by Nina. Something tells us these two women have a past…
Can we talk about the house?
It’s so overly designed and strange! It doesn’t look homey at all; it looks like an architectural set. From the comments on the YouTube trailer, it’s the way many of the book fans pictured it. They also praise the attention to detail in other parts of the trailer, saying that the filmmakers are getting many of the key elements right. Okay, we’re getting excited.
When will The Housemaid be released?
The Housemaid hits theaters December 19, 2025.
