Strong Chemical Smell (Toxic?)
While the size, thickness, softness, and density of these sponges are all good, the strong chemical (petroleum-product?) smell is a real problem. I have never had this issue before with other make-up sponges. But these pads had to be hand-washed on arrival (I even did an extra soak with baking soda and white vinegar)… which was truly inconvenient. And even though — after days of air-drying them —- I succeeded in diminishing the chemical odor, I could not get rid of it completely. It smelled kind of toxic to me.Btw, I did not actually buy these sponges to apply cosmetics — instead, my plan was to use them as protective pads for my ears (longer story). Still, the scent — and safety — matter to me.
