It’s official: Taylor Swift has just become Jonathan Anderson’s first celebrity bride, as she and her now-husband, Travis Kelce, wore his and hers Dior for their Madison Square Garden wedding. And while many believed Swift might wear an American designer, like Oscar de la Renta, it’s actually no surprise that the pop star chose Dior. After all, the French fashion house has a long, romantic history of dressing American celebrities, particularly stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, such as Rita Hayworth and Rita de Havilland. It’s an aesthetic that Swift has often leaned into, with a recent track on her The Life of a Showgirl album even paying homage to Elizabeth Taylor. Here are the other famous brides to walk down the aisle in Dior.
Rita Hayworth, 1949
When Hollywood icon Rita Hayworth wed playboy Prince Aly Khan in a glamorous chateau wedding in the South of France in 1949, she eschewed convention by opting for a pale blue tea dress by none other than Dior. Featuring a V-neckline, long sleeves, and a pleated skirt, some fashion pundits believe that Dua Lipa’s recent pale blue Schiaparelli skirt suit might have been inspired by the legendary star, especially as she also paired it with a wide-brimmed hat.

Queen Soraya of Iran, 1951
One of the most elaborate wedding dresses in history, Queen Soraya of Iran’s Christian Dior wedding dress featured 37 yards of silver lamé, 6,000 diamonds, and 20,000 marabou feathers, and was so heavy that the train had to be cut at midnight. The strapless design came with a matching jacket and veil, which she wore for the ceremony, before removing them for the reception in the evening. As the palace wasn’t heated, she also wore a white mink cape, plus wool socks disguised underneath the long skirt.
