Kaia Gerber may have traveled back to 1980s Los Angeles for her starring turn in The Shards, but her latest look is pure ’90s New York.
The model and actor, who plays Susan Reynolds in Ryan Murphy’s forthcoming FX show, nodded to one of the producer’s other projects. While doing press for The Shards yesterday, Kaia Gerber called back to Murphy’s recent series, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Gerber wore a distinctly CBK-inspired look: a slinky black ankle-length slip dress and an off-white shawl draped across her neck and chest.

Murphy fans will recall that Sarah Pidgeon wore the very same outfit in episode 5 of Love Story, when Carolyn makes her first trip to Ethel Kennedy’s Hyannis Port compound. The shawl causes a stir at dinner when Ethel makes Carolyn remove it—and then follows up with a question about her opinion on geopolitics.
The contentious look didn’t scare Gerber off, who gave it a 2026 update. While Pidgeon-as-Bessette wore a classic string of pearls beneath her shawl, Gerber’s accessory of choice was a pair of sleek, sporty sunglasses. While she may belong to a different corner of the Ryan Murphy Cinematic Universe, Gerber knows that one can never go wrong with a classic black slip.
