Every summer in Barbados, the Grand Kadooment Day festivities—marking the end of Crop Over, and celebrating the end of the island’s sugar cane harvest—guarantee vibrant masquerade bands, elaborate Carnival outfits, and, of course, a splashy Rihanna sighting.
The superstar has been attending Carnival in her home country in the Caribbean for years now, and today, Rihanna marked her glorious return to the grand street party once again. (She last attended in 2024.)
Rihanna joined her brother’s band, Aura, and paraded down the streets of Barbados in her latest Carnival design—which, as you’d expect, did not disappoint. The jewel-encrusted look, embellished with a multicolor array of gemstones and tassels, was complete with an intricate headpiece and feathered bustle. The custom outfit was made by the local Barbadian designer Lauren Austin, who has made many of Rihanna’s other Carnival looks over the years.

Crop Over is the island’s biggest and most-anticipated festival, dating back to the 1700s, and Rihanna has treated the annual affair as her personal runway. In past years, she has worn designs such as metallic bikinis and feathered wings, and naturally, loads of diamonds and crystal accessories. Her colorful ensembles are now practically a highlight of the event.
While she usually opts for fresh-off-the-runway on the red carpet or the stage, Rihanna always uses Carnival to spotlight local designers and artists, and to celebrate the unique beauty of Barbadian fashion. “I love how daring Rihanna is,” Austin told Vogue back in 2017. “Her style is edgy, and she isn’t afraid to wear whatever she wants, when she wants.” We couldn’t agree more.
