For today’s episode of The Run Through, Chloe Malle spoke with her longtime friend (and former Vogue colleague) Mark Guiducci, the global editorial director of Vanity Fair, just days before the launch of his September cover, featuring Marc Jacobs.

“I think in some ways [Marc] is the greatest American fashion designer,” Guiducci said. “And if Marc Jacobs has nine lives, he’s maybe on his seventh.”

The cover story, written by José Criales-Unzueta, chronicles a transitional moment for Jacobs, whose namesake brand was sold by LVMH to WHP Global and G-III Apparel Group this year. “This new chapter of Marc’s professional life is something different than going public and having umpteen thousands of stores around the world…and yet Marc is his own version of success,” Guiducci said.

This is Guiducci’s first September issue as the head of VF, and its other features include an exhaustive best dressed list, a story on Les Lalanne, and a closer look at the rise of the gossipy fashion newsletter. Also on the table during Malle and Guiducci’s conversation were the magazine’s recent investigation into Alex Cooper’s Unwell network; the Olivia Nuzzi fiasco; confronting the court of public opinion; and the state of the celebrity cover story.

But of course, it wouldn’t be a reunion without some reminiscing about the old days of Vogue. Sitting in a podcast studio no larger than the office they shared nearly 15 years ago, the two laughed over wellness routines and after-hours dinner plans.

Also on the podcast, Vogue’s senior lifestyle and weddings editor Liam Hess chatted about how the week’s biggest wedding stories (Jordyn Woods! Tallulah Willis! Cris y Gio!) came to be. Plus, we close out our Dogue days of summer with the final covers!
