When the post-workout shower has to wait, this spray offers a quick refresh in the meantime. Formulated with hypochlorous acid, it has antimicrobial properties that can help reduce bacteria and other microbes on the skin after sweating, while panthenol and allantoin help soothe. The fine mist also dries quickly without leaving behind the tacky feeling of another layer of product.

    Frequently asked questions

What exactly are Korean face mists, and what are the benefits?

According to Nicole Y. Lee, MD, MPH, FAAD, Korean face mists are essentially skin-care ingredients delivered in a very fine spray. “Unlike a traditional facial spray that may just contain water, many Korean formulations include humectants, soothing ingredients, antioxidants, or barrier-supporting ingredients to provide a quick layer of hydration throughout the day,” she says.

Dr. Gohara says a good face mist can also temporarily plump the skin, soften the appearance of fine lines, and restore radiance when your complexion looks tired or dull. “Think of a good face mist as pressing the refresh button on your complexion, with some real skin-care benefits built in,” she says.

How do you use Korean face mists in your skincare routine?

Both dermatologists agree that face mists should be viewed as an extra hydration step rather than a replacement for the essentials like moisturizer. For the most effective application, they recommend misting onto damp skin first.

“After cleansing, I mist evenly over the face, then follow with serum and moisturizer while the skin is still slightly damp. This gives humectants something to grab onto and helps the rest of the routine spread smoothly,” says Dr. Gohara. “A face mist can also be used over makeup or whenever the skin needs a hydrating reset.”

Is there anything to avoid or be mindful of when using a face mist?

If you have sensitive skin, Dr. Gohara says to avoid formulas that are heavy in fragrance, essential oils, or drying alcohols, as they can potentially cause irritation. And on the topic of dryness, Dr. Lee cautions against overspraying. “Though there really isn’t a strict rule on how often you should use a face mist, I would [consider] how your skin feels first. Repeatedly misting without following with a moisturizer can sometimes leave skin feeling even drier once the mist evaporates,” she explains.

What ingredients should I look for in a Korean face mist?

“I look for humectants like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and panthenol to draw water into the skin, along with soothing ingredients like centella asiatica, beta-glucan, or allantoin. Ceramides can also be helpful if you’re looking for more barrier support,” says Dr. Lee.

Dr. Gohara seconds this, adding urea to Dr. Lee’s list of humectants to look for. “These are [all] moisture magnets that pull water toward the skin.” In addition to ceramides, she likes squalane or lightweight oils that can help support the skin barrier and “keep that hydration from making a quick exit.”

To determine the best Korean face mists, we consulted dermatologists about the ingredients, formulations, and skin-care benefits that matter most, then drew on our knowledge of K-beauty to select the products we tested. We evaluated each mist’s spray, texture, and efficacy, including how well it addressed concerns like dryness, dullness, redness, sensitivity, and fine lines. These factors helped us decide which formulas were worth recommending.
