Carlos Sainz likes to get “tough” with his skincare. While sharing his Beauty Secrets with Vogue, the Formula 1 driver applies Augustinus Bader cleanser with noticeable vigor. “I like doing it hard; I don’t know why,” he says.
However, other aspects of the racecar driver’s routine are decidedly more gentle—gentlemanly, that is. Before wrapping up his grooming routine, Sainz spritzes himself with his version of “aftershave.”
“I always believe in a gentleman smelling like a gentleman, always smelling good. And a good aftershave is always fundamental for that,” the 32-year-old says, while clutching a bottle of Acqua di Giò Profondo. The aromatic and aquatic eau de parfum isn’t the only fragrant part of Sainz’s morning wellness routine: he also lights Byredo’s Lost Road Candle, a citrus and black pepper-forward scent, to set the vibe. “Why not?” he asks. And why not, indeed.
“For men nowadays, there’s a stigma of grooming and taking care of yourself that maybe you don’t feel very comfortable with,” Sainz continues. “But I’ve realized that nowadays pretty much every man does it. Don’t be shy about it; share it! Remember to take care of yourself.”
Case in point: Even when he’s mid-flight, the Madrid native wears 111Skin Cryo De-Puffing Eye Masks. After seeing his fellow plane passengers dabbling in cryotherapy at 35,000 feet, “I fell in with the trend and, since I started seeing a difference, I started using them too,” he says. As with his driving, Carlos Sainz is quick to adapt.
