On Wednesday evening, Tiffany & Co. celebrated the opening of its new South Coast Plaza store with a special black-tie dinner that gave guests an up-close look at what’s now the house’s largest location on the West Coast.
Though the 15,000-square-foot space officially opened its doors in June, the evening offered a proper introduction to the Peter Marino-designed flagship, complete with plenty of diamonds, a dinner by Daniel Boulud, and a surprise performance by Ashe.
The Costa Mesa store brings the Tiffany universe to Southern California by keeping its local surroundings firmly on the inspiration board. Digital installations throughout the space spotlight the coastlines of nearby Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, while details within its dome nod to the house’s Manhattan roots. It’s also home to a Blue Box Cafe, making South Coast Plaza one of only two Tiffany locations in the US to feature the dining concept.
Naturally, the jewelry provided plenty to look at. Laura Harrier arrived wearing one of the jeweler’s most recognizable creations: the Bird on a Rock necklace, featuring a 12-carat rubellite surrounded by diamonds, with coordinating earrings and rings. For everyday, however, Harrier keeps things a little more understated. She told Vogue that her tried-and-true pieces come from Tiffany’s Lock collection.
Zoey Deutch, meanwhile, enjoyed a jewelry milestone of her own. For the occasion, the actress became the first person to debut Tiffany’s HardWear Color link necklace with pearls and turquoise, adding a burst of color to the evening’s black-tie dress code. Charles Melton, Kelsey Merritt, and other friends of the house were also among the evening’s guests, each bringing their own take on Tiffany jewels to the chic affair.
Dinner followed with a menu curated by chef Daniel Boulud. Santa Barbara spot prawns and wild turbot were among the courses before a delectable soufflé arrived for dessert. Each course came with its own pairing, including Joseph Phelps Freestone Pastorale Vineyard Chardonnay, Château d’Yquem, and Ruinart Blanc de Blancs.
But dessert wasn’t quite the end of the evening. As dinner wrapped, guests made their way into the Blue Box Cafe, where Ashe was waiting to dazzle them with a performance. The singer, whose track “Stop the Wedding” recently went viral, shared that her relationship with Tiffany had grown following another event with the house earlier this year.
“I don’t usually wear a bunch of jewelry, but when I do, it’s always Tiffany,” Ashe told the crowd. “I fell even more in love with the brand after attending an event in Los Angeles earlier this year, and now I can’t believe I get to perform for all of you!”
It made for an intimate and memorable finale for a store and house built on a much, much grander scale.
