On October 5, 1962, a little Liverpudlian band called the Beatles released “Love Me Do”—the debut single that would pave the way to their stuperstardom. Now, 64 years later, bassist, keyboardist, and singer-songwriter Paul McCartney is firmly one of the most celebrated musicians in the world.
McCartney may be 84 years old, but he’s showing no signs of slowing down; just this past May, he released his 18th solo studio album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane; and his epic musical legacy—along with that of John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison—will be the subject of a suite of films by Sam Mendes, due out in April 2028.
Here, in the musical icon’s honor, we revisit some of our favorite snapshots from the very start of Sir Paul McCartney’s career.
