When Brazilian pop star Giulia Be first saw a photo of Conor Kennedy, she was immediately intrigued. “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, he’s cute,’” she recalls. In 2021, the two were introduced virtually by Conor’s sister, Kyra, and they followed each other on Instagram soon after.
After Giulia suffered a serious head injury that same year, Conor—an attorney and the great-nephew of former United States President John F. Kennedy, Jr.—reached out to check on her, sparking a back-and-forth via DM that would quickly evolve into something more.
At the time, Giulia was filming the Netflix movie Depois do Universo in Brazil, while Conor was studying in the United States. For the next five or six months, they exchanged lengthy WhatsApp messages. “We started calling them our love letters,” Giulia says. “When we finally met in person in California in 2022, I joked that it was either an unbelievable catfish situation or marriage.” By their third date, Conor was already introducing Giulia as his girlfriend.
In August 2024, three years later, Conor proposed at their new Los Angeles home before they’d even moved in. Under the pretense of needing help with furniture, he asked Giulia to stop by after what had already been a difficult day at the recording studio. “The house was dark, and when he didn’t answer my calls, I started to worry,” she remembers. Giulia eventually entered through the back door, inadvertently bypassing the cameras Conor had set up to capture her reaction. Fortunately, his laptop recorded the moment.
Inside, the living room was filled with candles, and as Elton John’s “Your Song” played in the background, Conor got down on one knee. He told Giulia that he’d loved her since the moment they’d met and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life loving her. “I said ‘yes’ before he’d even finished asking,” Giulia recalls. “It was intimate, completely unexpected, and so us.”
