Rare Beauty Is Launching a Customizable Perfume

Though Selena Gomez is no stranger to the world of fragrance development (she had a namesake perfume way back when and the uplifting-yet-cozy scent of Rare Beauty’s Find Comfort body care collection has been a favorite since it launched in 2023), her newest approach is special. On Tuesday, July 29, the 33-year-old announced Rare Beauty’s first perfume: Rare Eau de Parfum.

A long time coming, the “warm and decadent” new scent launches August 7 and was created to be customized to you.

The Inspiration

In her Instagram post announcing the launch, Gomez said that she “wanted to create a scent that could evolve with the moment.”

“Rare Eau de Parfum goes from quiet mornings at home to a night out with my friends and always feels just right,” she explained. “It’s personal and made to be layered.”

While the perfume certainly stands on its own, you can pair it with one of the brand’s new Fragrance Layering Balms “to create a scent that’s all your own.”

Accessibility was also top of mind for the brand when creating the fragrance. With its oversized pump, the full-size bottle can be pressed with any part of your body for “the most effortless and comfortable dispensing” and was designed with the help of certified hand therapists.

The Scent

Rare Eau de Parfum is described as “warm and decadent with a touch of spice.” Top notes include creamy caramel, pink pepper, and pistachio. You’ll find rich vanilla, spicy ginger, and cocoa beans at the center before the fragrance dries down to its earthy sandalwood, skin musk, and tonka bean base notes.

“Bright yet deep, familiar yet unexpected, this is a fragrance that evolves with every passing moment, lingering for up to 12 hours,” shared the brand.

As for the layering balms, you can choose from Amber Vanilla (to add a “warm, delicious layer” to your scent), Floral Peony Blossom (sweet and sultry), Fresh Bergamot (bright and breezy), or Woody Oak (rich and earthy).

The balms come in pocket-sized tubes that you can take with you anywhere. You never know when you’ll need to take your fragrance from day to night, after all. Or night to day? Or if you’ll need to simply change up your vibe mid-morning! The point here, according to Gomez, is to “make every moment rare.”
