Finding a perfect workout headband is like making friends as an adult—challenging, but so worth the effort. So when our editors tried the Lululemon Luxtreme Training Headband, there were a lot of factors to consider.

Does the headband keep flyaways out of your face? How stretchy is the band, and does it hold its shape after a few wears? And most important, how does it control sweat during an intense cardio or lifting session? The headband, which is designed for training, claims it will keep your hair in place during a workout while hugging your head in all the right places. The material is specially made with Lycra fiber to keep the band more secure (and your face sweat-free).

With nearly 600 reviews, the Lululemon Luxtreme Training Headband has a 4.4 star rating on their website. One reviewer said, “I have many of these headbands, and I love them! They are great without being too thick.” Another disagreed, saying, “A Cute Headband To Wear As An Accessory Not For Full Coverage.” So is it worth it or not? Let’s put it to the test.

For the latest installment of 5 People Try, Glamour editors try the Lululemon Luxtreme Training Headband to see how well it actually performs under pressure (and sweat). Read on to see our findings.

I’ve long been a fan of Lululemon’s headbands for both how well they work at holding back my hair during the hot summer months and how cute they look on. This headband is no exception. It really kept my hair in place during Pilates, and I liked how it’s thin enough to be subtle and not take over my whole head. Plus, who doesn’t love Lulu?

    Jenifer Calle, senior commerce editor

I love a good headband, so I’m picky about the ones I keep in rotation. I wore this Lululemon headband recently for a 5K run and really loved how it felt throughout my run. I have long thick hair so my headbands tend to fall down during my run, and I hate those types of distractions. As someone who is currently training for a 10K, I’m thoughtful about the running gear I recommend, and this Lululemon headband has become my go-to. It didn’t fall but it also didn’t squeeze my head during my run. It kept my baby hairs at bay and the moisture-wicking fabric helped keep me drier.

I used the Lululemon Luxtreme Training headband a few times for different activities. I usually do running and strength training, and I like to wear my curly hair down during my workout. For this reason, I prefer a headband with a thick and wide diameter to hold back my hair and keep my forehead dry from sweat. The velvet on the inside of the headband, plus the Lycra fiber material, does keep it stretchy and secure around my head, but I don’t feel like my hair is as pulled back or protected as with other headbands. I will definitely keep this in my headband rotation, but it won’t be the first headband I pick to use.

    Anna Moeslein, deputy editor

I’m not typically a headband person—always too much hassle to get it to stay on my super-straight hair—so I was admittedly skeptical about  Lululemon’s claims that the Luxtreme is made to remain in place while working out. That said, nothing can disrupt a yoga flow like hair falling in your face mid downward-facing dog, so I was open enough to give it a try. My thoughts? Pleasantly surprised! Like, really surprised. While it’s not totally perfect, the velvet strip on the inside truly does stay more secure than any other headband I’ve tried. I also had a chance to put the sweat-wicking technology to the test by wearing this out and about during a summer heat wave—and that may be the best thing about it. My morning commute on a 90-degree day was a lot better thanks to this headband keeping the hair out of my face without causing any creases.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the Lululemon headband! The tapered width is such an interesting detail and not something I’ve really seen from other headbands before—and it makes it feel a bit more intentional as a workout accessory, compared to simply it being a fashion accessory (which is how I normally wear them). That said, it performed really well during yoga; it stayed in place the entire time thanks to the grip strips along the edges. I had my hair up in a ponytail and it kept my baby hairs neatly tucked away the whole session. It’s functional, polished, and surprisingly affordable at the same time, which makes it a win in my book.
