Corsets became synonymous with femininity beginning in the 16th century. The Medici, one of the most important families of the Florentine aristocracy, popularized them at their court. In its early days, this piece was made of metal, evolving over the centuries to become a necessary garment that denoted luxury by accentuating the waist. In the French Belle Époque, the corset returned to the spotlight until Coco Chanel changed the fashion landscape with loose, minimalist designs.
But the idea of the corset was never forgotten. As proof, Noami Campbell recently wore one by Dolce & Gabbana in Cannes, while Dua Lipa opted for a Jean Paul Gaultier corset full of sparkling crystals on her Radical Optimism tour. Just a few days ago, Christina Aguilera was seen wearing an olive green Versace dress with a corset included.
And in street style? Corsets have lost their restrictive nature and have become a way to add a vintage and distinctive touch to an ensemble when layered over another top. Together, the combination creates a style that definitely does not go unnoticed. Without a doubt, the combo is an invitation to challenge the rules and imagine the current summer trends differently as we head into fall 2025.

Low-rise jeans made a comeback in the 2000s, and while they have their detractors, the truth is that this hasn’t stopped this style from popping up in all the fashion capitals. Generally, they’re used as a style statement, paired with very sensual garments; however, adding a striped shirt under a corset can create a completely different silhouette.
