Although a season-less category, denim is a serious power player in fall—something we rely on as an outfit building block as the cooler temperatures hit. New jeans are always a smart buy as you start transitioning your wardrobe, and although we have seen a lot of trends over the past year, the fall 2025 denim trends are—dare we say it—downright wearable.

With a little help from the experts at some of the most beloved denim brands—Levi’s, Madewell, Citizens of Humanity, Frame, Still Here and Agolde to name a few— we’re unpacking the jean styles you should be investing in for fall 2025. Spoiler alert: many of them are bonafide closet classics, which means they won’t feel too out of touch with the pairs you might already hold near and dear.

Long and loose silhouettes continue to reign supreme in the denim world, cosigned by most of the experts we spoke to. The barrel-leg jean holds strong, too, however, in an indigo twist of fate, skinnies and slim cigarette shapes have made a triumphant return, as have bootcut and flared legs. It’s all about a well-rounded mix—so don’t be afraid to add a little bit of everything into your fall rotation.

Keep reading below for fall’s top denim trends—all of which are expert-approved and readily shoppable.

    The Low, Loose, and Baggy

“There is very much still a mood for a looser, baggier fit for fall,” Erik Torstensson, co-founder and creative director of Frame, tells Vogue, who looked to “silhouettes that are laid-back and quintessential” to the brand’s creative spirit, for the season ahead. A relaxed feel was also top of mind for Marianne McDonald, creative director at Citizens of Humanity. “We’ve seen strong energy around low-slung, straight slouchy fits that feel lived-in,” she says, highlighting styles such as the Lindz, Winslow, and Anissa, all which illustrate “the low-rise and looser narrative, offering a shift to early-2000s icons, reinterpreted with a contemporary point of view.” Whether you go classic or ultra-modern, these baggy jeans are “universally flattering and look particularly good with bodycon tops and structured blazers or cropped bombers that we see trending,” adds Jill Guenza, VP of women’s apparel design at Levi Strauss & Co.

    The Slim Cigarette

“One of the most exciting and controversial trend developments is the emergence of a slim, cigarette shape,” says Guenza. “Narrower than a straight but looser than the jeggings of yore, this new generation of ‘skinnier’ jeans feels fresh and tailored, especially when paired with the big, ‘80s shoulder moment happening in tops and outerwear.” This new breed of skinnies includes an update to a beloved classic—the Wedgie Slim—a cigarette slim with a not-too-high-rise and the classic Wedgie butt. Karen Phelps, creative director of Agolde, also notes the shift to leaner fits for the new season. “Slimmer silhouettes like our Low-Rise Slim and Kick Boot are taking center stage—clean lines that elongate and bring a sense of polish.” Wearing these is all about balance: “Pair slouchy, oversized pieces with something more tailored or precise,” Phelps recommends. “Those contrasts—soft and sharp, relaxed and refined—are what make fall feel dynamic.”

    The Icons

Denim brands are revisiting their signature silhouettes, which often includes simple, straight-leg jeans. “As we look to fall 2025, we see a shift towards classic, utility-driven denim with elevated details,” says Sonia Mosseri, co-founder and creative director at Still Here. “Still Here has always celebrated nostalgia with a modern sensibility, and this season we’re continuing to build a wardrobe of elevated staples that feel comforting but sharp. It’s about creating heritage pieces that help people feel more like themselves, and help them feel excitement for everyday dressing.” This sense of nostalgia is also being highlighted at Levi’s. “We’re leaning into the idea of reimagined icons—pieces rooted in Levi’s heritage but reimagined to offer effortless versatility with a modern spin,” says Guenza, including the 501 ’90s and the introduction of the 501 Curve, the first-ever 501 jean designed for curvier bodies.

    The Fresh Finishes

“What’s exciting in denim now is being able to play with a range of washes in your rotation,” says Steven Cateron, head of design at Madewell. “Washes are like colors right now—you reach for a different one every day, depending on the look you’re working with. I was glad to see a lot of denim on the fall runways, particularly with lived-in washes that feel authentic.” For some, these lived-in details will be a welcome break from the clean lines that have dominated for a while now. “Heavy tints and authentic vintage washes are feeling fresh again,” says Cameron, who highlights the unique, destroyed wash of Rúadh’s latest style—the Agnes jean. You’ll also see an emphasis on other details that really set these jeans apart. “The Still Here girl really appreciates a functional, comfortable, and special pair of jeans that can take them from day to night,” Mosseri says. “Each silhouette is grounded in a timeless leg shape but introduces thoughtful modern details—the Cool Jean’s custom toggle, the Buckle’s functional waist tabs, and the Sport Jean’s adjustable drawcord hems,” are just a few.

    The Updated Barrel

All things curved and barrel-leg continue to evolve, with brands emphasizing the progression of the trend, which has become more of a closet mainstay over the past few seasons. “In addition to offering new versions of our popular Half-Pipe barrel jeans, we’re looking to evolve the trend,” Tim Kaeding, creative director and cofounder of Mother, tells Vogue. “We’re introducing flare and boyfriend versions. The fits are the same at the top, and there’s still a curve to the silhouettes, but the barrel shape is less pronounced.” With styles like Mother’s The Pipe Dream and Lemon Twist, you’ll find expanded bottoms or a twisting technique, giving the shape its uniquely updated feel—an idea others are playing with, as well. “I’m especially excited about the Twist Jean—it features an off-axis leg seam that creates a subtle but sculptural twist through the leg,” Phelps says. “It feels directional without being loud but still pushes the forward with style.”

    The Flared & Bootcut

Channeling ’70s energy with ’00s styling, flares and bootcuts welcome surprising mashups for fall. “The low-rise still feels fresh, so this season we have introduced The Rodeo—our low-slung, hip-hugging, slim-fit with a subtle bootcut,” says Torstensson. Similarly, this Y2K-era feel can be seen throughout many other collections. “Much of what’s resonating feels familiar when you think back to the early 2000s,” McDonald says. “The Genova is our answer to the low-rise bootcut we all remember, reworked with a cleaner leg and a boyish fit up top that gives a sexy nod to the past but in a way that feels new.” At Agolde, you’ll find it in the addition of a kick-boot style, while Mother is focusing on “tapping into the grit and glamour of the ‘70s” with an entire capsule celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their beloved style, the Hustler, plus variations on other favorites such as The Weekender and The Runaway.

    The Polished Trouser

Continuing with the theme of volume, denim trousers are making an appearance in fall lineups, offering a refined take on wide-leg jeans. “I’m anticipating seeing leg-lengthening fits and tailored elements like a crease, and these lived-in washes,” says Cateron, who highlights Madewell’s The Perfect Vintage Wide Leg jean as an accessible option. These tailored takes can be considered the antidote to the plethora of baggy fits on the market. You’ll find Frame’s introduction of The Collegiate jeans a top contender, as well. “The silhouette is a cleaned-up baggy jean in rigid denim for a sharper polished weekday look, a chicer baggy jean with a higher rise and slimmer leg,” says Torstensson.
