Will Selena Gomez attend the VMAs in 2025?
The 33-year-old pop star is nominated for best collaboration alongside her fiancé, Benny Blanco, for “Sunset Blvd,” a single from their joint 2025 album, I Said I Love You First.
However, with the couple’s wedding rumored to be taking place this month, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they skipped the ceremony as they either 1) continue with preparations for the big day or 2) actually get married. To be honest, a wedding would be a iconic excuse for missing an awards show at which both the bride and groom are nominated. Consider also that Gomez’s BFF, Taylor Swift, will not be attending this year’s VMAs, despite her potential for a record-breaking win. Maybe she’s busy supporting her own fiancé, Travis Kelce, as he embarks on football season, or maybe she’s in the bridal party?
This is all speculation, of course. The wedding could be taking place during any other weekend in September, or beyond. Who’s to say, except for the happy couple themselves.
But. Gomez’s TV show, Only Murders in the Building, is nominated for best comedy series at the 2025 Emmys, which are taking place next week, on September 14. On the prestige scale, the Emmys outrank the VMAs (you know, in case Gomez was weighing attending one event over the other when planning her wedding date). If she’s planning to attend the Emmys, then the wedding will likely be either this weekend or the last weekend of the month. (On September 5, Page Six reported that the latter—the final weekend of September—is the rumored wedding date. Though, again, nothing has been confirmed.)
Gomez and Blanco are in good company in the best collaboration category at the VMAs 2025. Their fellow nominees include: Bailey Zimmerman with Luke Combs; Kendrick Lamar and SZA; Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars; Post Malone ft. Blake Shelton; and Rosé and Bruno Mars. The award is typically televised—Swift and Post Malone took home the Moon Man for “Fortnight” in 2024—which is an incentive for artists to show up at the event in person.
The last ceremony Gomez attended was in 2023, when she won the award for best collaboration alongside Rema for their hit “Calm Down.”
