The summer sports season is officially in session! This week in London, Wimbledon is heating up as the annual British tennis tournament moves from the qualifiers to the main competition, while this year’s epic FIFA World Cup, taking place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, continues apace. (And that’s without even mentioning the Tour de France, which kicks off on July 4.) Here, find Vogue’s roundup of all the starriest—and most stylish—sports parties of the season.
Amanda Anisimova’s Wimbledon Cocktail Party, Hosted in Partnership With the WTA and TikTok
On Wednesday, June 24, in the thick of a London heatwave—one of many over the past few weeks—the great and good of the tennis world headed to The Roof Gardens in Kensington to cool down over Centre Court Spritzes (featuring rhubarb and ginger and cherry shrub for a taste of the great British summer) and Match Point Palomas. Oh, and to toast to the world number six player, Amanda Anisimova, ahead of this year’s Wimbledon Championships: the American tennis star was on fine form ahead of the tournament, with the hopes of reaching the finals again after last year’s face-off against the reigning Wimbledon champion, Iga Swiatek.
Set within one of The Roof Gardens’ sprawling, leafy outdoor spaces, 100 feet above the bustle of Kensington High Street, guests invited by the WTA and TikTok gathered around pathways lined with alliums and delphiniums in the WTA’s signature shade of “heritage purple,” or stopped to take in the vintage tennis racket displayed on a podium to honor the WTA Foundation’s “Women Change the Game” initiative that addresses the global women’s health gap, developed in partnership with organizations like the Gates Foundation and UNICEF.
And while Anisimova was the star of the show—she arrived in a white chiffon mini dress by David Koma, and could be spotted chatting with the designer himself early in the evening—the crowd of tennis stars also included a handful of Anisimova’s peers within the American women’s tennis world, including Jessica Pegula and Desirae Krawczyk. Gucci’s Pre-Wimbledon Dinner With Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner’s name is still on the scoreboard that overlooks centre court at Wimbledon—there ever since he defeated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in a three-hour thriller of a men’s final a year ago. The 24-year-old champion is no doubt hoping to make success at SW19 a tradition (his childhood idol, Roger Federer, won eight Wimbledon titles in his career)—a little like the intimate pre-tournament dinner Gucci now hosts in its ambassador’s honor in London each year.
