We all know Cloud Dancer was a controversial choice for the Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year, but there’s no doubt the shade has dominated this year’s summer wardrobes at extraordinary rates. Sure, white jeans and linen sets are peak summer staples, but have you ever seen so many airy, semi-sheer blouses and dresses on NYC streets—or your Instagram discover page—in your life?
So when Sherwin-Williams’ 2027 Colormix Trend Forecast predicted homeowners are “ready to take risks” with a rebellious mix of vibrant shades, soft pastels, and rich neutrals, I couldn’t help but think of the runway shows suggesting the same. From Coach to Dries Van Noten to Marni, maximalist styling with bold pops of color have been all over fall 2026 presentations.
Sherwin-Williams’ team of experts also take into account the feelings consumers are hoping to evoke in their homes. “Color influences mood, shapes our experiences, and helps create meaningful connections to the places we spend the most time,” interior designer and color strategist Emily Kantz tells Architectural Digest. “Colormix 2027 is an invitation to embrace that potential and to design with intention, creativity, and confidence.”
Much like Pantone’s color of the year, Sherwin-Williams’s annual color trend report sets the tone (pun intended) for what our homes and closets will look like in the year ahead. But while our friends over at Architectural Digest have put together a great guide for decorating with the 48-shade collection, I’ve been using the samples as inspiration for unique shades and color combinations to try this fall.
