The 2026 US Open is officially underway, with Sunday’s singles main draw attracting a slew of star attendees. Despite the extremely hot and humid weather, Emma Roberts, Tate McRae, Orlando Bloom, Brandy, and Paul Anthony Kelly were among those who gathered to experience this year’s electric night one match, which stretched into the wee morning hours.
“This is my first US Open. It’s so fun—a lot of back and forth,” Kelly told Vogue. The actor’s inaugural trip to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center saw Argentina’s Mariano Navone face off against Novak Djokovic in a five-set match that unfurled past midnight. (In a shocking upset, Djokovic lost to the top-50 ranked player.) “Novak, I’ve heard his name a million times. I’ve watched tennis here and there, but I love going to a sporting event,” Kelly said. “It’s so nice to be a part of it.”
Kelly’s fondness for live sports echoes that of John F. Kennedy Jr., whom he played in FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Kennedy himself was a frequent spectator at the US Open all throughout the 1990s, even attending matches just days before his secret wedding to Bessette. “He was everywhere,” Kelly agreed. “I’m familiar with his fandom of sports—tennis and basketball. I learned a lot about that guy.”
Over the course of the four hour, 36-minute match, stars relaxed in the newly-redesigned Moët & Chandon Club de Tennis Suite, indulging in lobster rolls and the Moët Serve; a signature champagne cocktail that features fresh limes arranged to look like tennis balls and served in a peel-open, metal-and-plastic can designed to look like a miniature tennis ball canister.
Kelly, who snapped candid Polaroids to commemorate his debut outing, caught up with newly-minted Vogue Weddings bride Emma Roberts (chic in Ferragamo), who is his new co-star in American Horror Story. Season 13 of the franchise, which remains under wraps, sees the Canadian actor debuting blonde locks, as per recent paparazzi images. “Crazy, to see it brown again, huh,” he joked, pointing to his natural hair. “I haven’t read any of the comments, but I love a compliment. I’ll take it. I was really excited my character was going to be blonde. It’s just an extra layer of falling into a character. You look at yourself in the mirror and you’re totally different, so you have nothing of your own to rely on and you delve deeper into a character.”
