Jennifer Lawrence Gets Real About Beauty and Aging

We’ve both tested out the sparkling new space, and “I was there for like five and a half hours,” Lawrence estimates of the multi-step facial and the even longer massage. She likes lymphatic drainage to “depuff” after a long flight, and couldn’t help but fall asleep while her esthetician worked. “I snored and then went, ‘Sorry,’ as if she would get really mad at me,” Lawrence admits. I blame the treatment beds, so soft with buttery comforters instead of bumpy towels.

As a Dior fashion and beauty ambassador (and an Oscar winner who understands red-carpet prep), Lawrence has tried many such beds, including one at the brand’s New York spa earlier in the week. She likely knows that those slippers on her feet are a treatment-room perk (I’ve already walked a pair back to my opulent room). When I ask if she’s a spa person in real life, Lawrence lists the treatments she loves and hates: “I hate getting my hair colored. I also hate going to the nail salon. I saw a tweet that was like, ‘It’s like going to the hand dentist.’ It’s not relaxing. It’s not fun. It’s really, really boring. It takes so long.” I agree and say I want two people working in tandem, hands and toes. “Yeah, and while I’m, like, driving and getting something done,” she imagines.

Lawrence does “believe in facials,” she tells me when I admit to skipping them. “Yeah, because I can’t really get very much done. I need to have movement in my face—I get baby Botox, but I can’t do a lot,” she says of the industry term for microdosed injections meant to smooth without totally freezing muscles. “If my skin is going to be a little saggier than I would like, at least it looks dewy and pretty.” She’s open about the plastic surgery on her mind in this era of secret tweakments and deep-plane facelifts. “Oh, I’m really nervous about these fat transfers. I support other people doing them because I want to continue to watch and see what happens, but I don’t know about that,” she says. “I mean, I would love to have a buccal fat removal. I can’t because everybody would know, but just know that I want that.”

Instead, during these hours of high-touch luxury, Lawrence prefers Dior’s signature Mascarade treatment inspired by mascheri, the Venetian artisans who handcraft elaborate masks. It blends manual facial massage, techy machines (Radiofrequency! Microcurrent! Ultrasound!) and many, many mask applications (Cryo! Cream! LED!). “I do like the radiofrequency because I have huge cheeks and so I feel like exercising them as much as possible,” she says. When one machine misted oxygen over a layer of Dior Prestige skincare, “I thought she was smoking in my face,” Lawrence laughs. “When you’re in Europe, you never know. But I just felt, like, this poof. But it turned out to not be a cigarette and it was really, really hydrating and refreshing.”
