Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen made a rare—but decidedly low-key—appearance in New York City yesterday. Despite New York Fashion Week being in full swing as of today, the sisters and The Row designers will avoid the scrum, and will take themselves to Paris for their biannual show.
Until then, it’s work, work, work. The Olsens were photographed leaving an office building, sporting differing takes on transeasonal style. They were wearing—and carrying—multiple options for the uncertain September climate.
First, Ashley Olsen appeared, wearing a black knit sweater with a deep V-neck and a white tank top underneath, and straight-leg black jeans on the bottom. She wore some double-strapped black sliders and oversized, angular sunglasses, and toted a smooth-grain black leather bag from her own brand.
Mary-Kate Olsen, meanwhile, opted for something a little breezier. M.K. wore a loose white t-shirt and black sweater draped over her front, paired with long, loose black shorts (Big Shorts Summer is going nowhere, just yet). On her feet, some rare navy Yohji Yamamoto x Adidas SS2002 Prajna sneakers. (Because if they aren’t wearing The Row, the Olsens are wearing Yohji.) Over her arm, a brown croc-embossed carry-all and a pair of light-wash blue denim jeans.

Despite their opposite looks, they stuck to the spectrum of Olsen twin aesthetics. While they don’t tend to partake in matchy-matchy dressing, their individual styles revel in the boho: paisley prints, ruffles, statement jewelry. They prioritize their own designs, vintage, and IYKYK pieces from Yohji Yamamoto and Comme. Still, their vibe is overarchingly minimal, with a focus on layers and draping. It’s exactly why we hope to see more of the Olsen sisters as fall approaches for more seasonal dressing inspo.
