Some dresses will live forever: Princess Diana’s revenge dress is one, a Dior by John Galliano newspaper print slip another. It’s the latter, seen on Alexandra Leclerc, that edged it this week.
The art historian, recent Rhode collaborator, dog mom, and F1 WAG appeared at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid to cheer on her husband Charles Leclerc. She wore the iconic bias-cut mini-dress from the Dior fall 2000 collection with Dolce & Gabbana leather mules, oval-shaped Miu Miu sunglasses, and a white Lady Dior bag—her go-to accessory, of course, is her little dog Leo. (Another add-on? A charm and carabiner from Leclerc’s aforementioned Rhode collection.)
The day before, Leclerc was in her home of Monaco to celebrate the launch of her Rhode collab, opting for a sugary, sparkly pink midi dress to reflect her shimmering line of products. (All named for her world: the ‘Monaco’ and ‘Gemini’ Pocket Blushes included.) Clearly, Leclerc loves a statement-making dress moment.
Paddock fashion has come to be defined by modern F1 WAGs like Alexandra Leclerc (who married Charles in February, and is reported to be pregnant with their first child): across the last few weeks she’s kept to her floaty, feminine aesthetic codes, playing with homegrown brands and luxury accessories. At the Italian Grand Prix, she wore a polka-dot Marelea halter dress and fire-red Ferrari gown. In Madrid, she opted for Spanish label Desigual’s pink flocked halter dress and a slinky black Silvia Tcherassi co-ord.

It’s a look that’s probably not very familiar to those that spend more time traversing the Grand Prix paddock than binge-watching Sex and the City, but anyone even slightly Carrie Bradshaw-literate will know that the dress became one of the most defining fashion moments of the show, and more widely, a visual artefact of style in the 2000s, thanks to costume designer Patricia Field.
