“I love designing spring,” said Tanya Taylor as she showed clothes that had lightness, versatility, and as she noted, were cut closer to the body. The collection was a kind of souvenir of a solo trip Taylor made to Argentina, where she drank in the colors and light and observed how women dressed. “It’s really through color that I saw them expressing themselves,” the designer said. “Something that stood out is there was a little bit of a toughness to how they styled themselves.” Taylor isn’t designing for Betty Rizzo but for Sandy Olsson types (before the makeover), and slightly elongated jean shorts are about as hard-edged as things get here.
For weddings and dinners at Margaux there are always pretty dresses. This season what animated them was tasteful clashes of color—see the pretty mocha and lime lingerie camisole and skirt—clashing patterns and mixed prints. “I really like the idea that prints can come together in a clashing way, but in a really simple silhouette,” said Taylor, who dreamed up a striped half-and-half polo cotton dress, a slip dress that combined three prints, and a wrap skirt that collaged fabrics and looks almost as if it were made of scarves. The designer also played with casual/dressy mixes, as when she paired a marinière top with a more precious shell-embroidered miniskirt, which could be accessorized with a bag and shoes from Taylor’s new accessories line.
