“It’s not about dressing up in any type of strange way, it’s about really feeling comfortable in her own body. She has places to be and doesn’t want to look like she’s on summer holiday.” So said Sofia Wallenstam of the spring collection she designed with Rachel Proud. The team at Dagmar were thinking about how to dress for a changing climate, one in which it seems crushing heat will be the norm.
Rendered almost entirely in black and white, the collection featured close-to-the-body dresses in tank shapes (one with a deep scoop backline) and a crinkled slip dress with a drawstring neckline. Tops-wise there was an airy A-line cami that ruffled at the bottom. More sensual—and essential–was a sleeveless gathered bodysuit with shoulder pads; the lookbook shows it paired with ‘30s-inspired high waist pants. A roomy beige side-tie jacket with an extended shoulder line that gently collapsed looked ideal for beating the heat while still appearing professional.
Wallenstam described the collection as having a skav-ish quality, meaning a certain offness, but the only visible “glitch” was a two-seam dress (one down the the center front and back) that only fell in a straight line when covering one shoulder and slipping off the other with summertime ease.
