Throughout the film, Demeterio utilized impenetrable leather and warm, protective knits to weave the story of a guarded woman “unraveling” under the weight of the Crawford family’s dark secrets. It’s only when she pieces the story together that she’s able to step into Verity’s shoes—or in this case, red Valentino dress—and claim the lifestyle she feels she deserves. At least, until Verity’s final letter casts doubt upon Lowen’s self-righteous ending.
Like Lowen herself, I left the theater with more questions than answers (though half of them were about the writer’s impeccable collection of fall basics). Luckily, I’m a journalist and could go directly to source to find out exactly what Lowen was wearing—and just how Jacqueline Demeterio styled her Lowen’s cozy cottage wardrobe so effortlessly. Warning: minor spoilers ahead.

The jackets Lowen wears in Verity tell her story more than any other item in her personal wardrobe. Before witnessing the bloody car wreck that sets the tone for the film, she’s on her way to a mysterious publishing meeting shrouded in a classic, practical wool coat by Theory. Demeterio was leaning towards an oversized version from The Row before opting for a more “nondescript” option. “We got to a point of we were like, maybe it is too much, you know?” Demeterio explained. “You don’t really want it to look like an editorial because she is playing this character. [The Theory coat] was a little bit more toned down.”
