“This manicure is inspired by Lisa’s Thai culture,” Alevar tells Vogue. “The flare shape is a nod to traditional Thai dance finger caps.” Fon Lep, or the Fingernail Dance, is an ancient dance from the Northern region of Thailand, during which performers wear fingernail extensions made of metal on eight of their fingers while dancing with slow, fluid movements.
This isn’t the first time the duo have referenced Fon Lep with Lisa’s glam, either. For the 2026 VMAs—where Lisa won the best-pop prize for her song “Dream,” featuring Kentaro Sakaguch—Alvear hand-sculpted Apres Nail tips into a dramatic, curved shape similar to this new red set.
For the red manicure, he sourced the flared nail tips from Nails Novoovo, a company that specializes in tips of different shapes. And rest assured that the shade was bespoke: “I mixed my own reds to get this dark red glitter tone,” Alvear says.
