Floor-to-ceiling double doors open toward a wrought-iron balcony in this bright, breezy and airy apartment. Located on the charming Calle Torrecilla del Leal, a stay here feels authentic: buildings along this street tend to be residential on the upper floors and lined with locally loved restaurants, cafes, and bars at ground level. Mercado de Antón Martín is also just a few minutes away on foot—this is where Madrileños shop for fish, meat, cheese, and other fresh produce. Like many Airbnbs in Madrid, this home lies side by side with top city attractions, too: Reina Sofía, The Thyssen and El Prado are all only around a 10-minute walk away.

Madrid’s Salamanca district, where this home is located, was designed in the 19th century as a residential area for aristocracy and the like. It shows: facades are stately and ornate, with stone moldings and decorative wrought-iron balconies. Inside, this three-bedroom apartment is modern, but it fits into its surroundings with walls drenched in rich colors—olive green, mocha and terracotta—with plush velvet sofas placed beside them, and theatrical ostrich-feather chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
When it comes time to do your souvenir shopping, all the designer flagships are found on the nearby Milla de Oro (Golden Mile), but wander the smaller side streets for local boutiques specializing in leather, jewelry, watchmaking, and homeware. Madrid’s other ‘golden’ stretch—the Golden Triangle of Art—is also only a short walk away.
Rooms: 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms

For a vacation away from the crowds with easy access to the Spanish capital, this rustic (in the truest sense of the word) Spanish villa in the mountainous countryside of La Estación makes the ideal getaway. Its stone-built exterior continues inside, with exposed stone walls in the living spaces, kitchen, and wine cellar; terracotta tiling lines much of the floor.
With four bedrooms, it’s best for a family or a group of friends who can gather around the large indoor and outdoor dining tables for long lunches and dinners. The views might occupy most of your time, but horseriding, hiking, and vineyards are all within convenient reach. Madrid is also easily accessible for a day trip, at a roughly one-hour drive away.
Rooms: 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
Amenities: Kitchen, washer, indoor fireplace, central heating, back garden, grill, on-site parking, swimming pool (open during summer months), pets allowed
Location: La Estación, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain
