Fans think Nina Dobrev and Shaun White’s abrupt breakup makes a whole lot more sense after watching the actor’s latest TikTok video.
On September 11, People reported that Dobrev and White had ended their engagement and split up after five years together. “It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,” a source told the publication. This announcement came as a bit of a shock, given The Vampire Diaries actor and Olympic gold medalist had been seen holding hands at an outdoor market as recently as August 31.
However, fans think Dobrev’s most recent TikTok video may have shed some light on the subject. In the 13-second straight-to-camera lip-sync video shared in early September, Dobrev pantomimed advice using interview audio from the account Bad Bitch Granny. “How do you sleep at night knowing that people don’t like you?” the interviewer asks, to which Dobrev lip-syncs the reply, “With no underwear on in case they want to kiss my ass.”
When asked to deliver advice to “women who want to fix their man,” Dobrev mouths this response: “Listen, Bob the Builder, he’s got 10 other women trying to fix him too and you look like a damn construction crew.”

Now fans are jumping to the conclusion that White cheated on Dobrev, causing their breakup. “Subtext here: he cheated,” one fan commented on September 11. “EVEN THE PRETTY & SUPER COOL ONES, GIRLS!!! IT’S NEVER YOUR FAULT.” Another wrote, “cheating on Nina Dobrev is diabolical!!!!”
While many echoed this sentiment in the comments and their own TikTok videos, not everyone is convinced. “Until they announce it I’m not buying it not to mention she still has him pinned on her tiktok account,” one fan commented on an edit set to Taylor Swift’s “Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” While it’s true Dobrev still has a video with White pinned to the top of her TikTok account, People reports that she recently unpinned her engagement photos from her Instagram grid.
Dobrev and White were first photographed together at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, though they did not officially meet until they crossed paths at a Florida speaking engagement in December 2019. Their romance quickly became serious as they quarantined together during the COVID-19 pandemic, with White eventually proposing in October 2024. “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé 💍♾️,” Dobrev captioned her Instagram announcement at the time.
Nina Dobrev attends the premiere of Eternity during the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2025.
