September is just around the corner, and with it comes the start of the fall film festival circuit. Deputy editor Taylor Antrim served as a guest host on today’s episode of The Run-Through, joined by fellow Vogue editors and cinephiles Liam Hess and Lisa Wong Macabasco to break down their most anticipated premieres in Venice, Toronto, and at the New York Film Festival.

“We do get the opportunity, sometimes, to see some of these [films] before they come out in the festivals, because they’re trying to drum up support from Vogue and other outlets,” Taylor explained. As such, the trio began by noting some of the films they’ve already had the chance to see. First among them was James Gray’s Paper Tiger, starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson. “There’s a lot of wigs and suits and accents that are a little over-the-top,” Lisa observed of the thriller, which takes place in Queens in the 1980s. After watching the film himself, Taylor found himself asking his group chats: “Is Adam Driver a great actor or not?” The group weighed in on this query.

The focus then shifted to All of a Sudden, Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s French-language debut; Fjord, Cristian Mungiu’s legal thriller starring podcast favorite Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan; Hope, an action film starring Squid Game breakout Hoyeon; and Gentle Monster, led by an excellent Léa Seydoux. In a final lightning round, they each shared the two films they’re most excited to see at the festivals. Liam’s picks were Possible Love by Lee Chang-dong and Primetime, about To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen; Lisa’s are Bucking Fastard from Werner Herzog, starring the Mara sisters, and Misty Green from Chris Rock; and Taylor rounded things out with Ink from Danny Boyle, a biographical film about Rupert Murdoch’s acquisition of The Sun, and Magazine, an indie from former Vogue contributor Alexandra Pechman.

Also on today’s episode, Chloe is joined by Marley Marius to talk about the big news of the week: the reported return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the UK. They also discuss the latest movies they’ve seen (Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie for Chloe and Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter for Marley) and which stars they’re most looking forward to following in Venice (hint: one’s name starts with Parker and ends with Posey).
