A few months before Ramya Velury met Joseph Harris, a clairvoyant told her she’d reconnect with a man who had already been in her orbit, and who was also a twin. “I didn’t know any twins at that time,” Ramya says, “but then I met Joe and his twin.”
It was 2022, and Joe was working remotely from his colleague Jenna Adler’s house. “Jenna’s mission in life during this time was to ‘find Joe a girlfriend,’” he laughs. Later in the evening, she proposed a question to the group: Who can we set Joe up with? Another friend suggested Ramya. About an hour later, she arrived. “After a knock on the door, in comes Ramya with a fresh face and as beautiful as ever,” Joe says, “although Ramya will tell you she looked like a glazed donut as she had just come from a facial.” Ramya sat down at the table of friends and jumped right into the conversation without hesitation. “From that moment, I was all in,” Joe says.
The two had briefly met the year prior at a record label day party (Joe is a music agent and Ramya is a talent agent and startup advisor). Three years before that, Ramya and Joe had been put on a text thread by a mutual friend. “I lived in New York, and he lived in LA, so our worlds never really crossed paths,” she explains. But, as her clairvoyant predicted, their paths had rejoined for good this time.
A few years later in December 2025, Joe was ready to propose, but knew he had to tread lightly. “Ramya (and all her friends) warned me with the wrath of God that I better not do anything extravagant or in public, otherwise she would hate it,” he says. Heeding this warning, he opted for a subtler approach that she wouldn’t see coming.
Ramya was returning from a weeklong trip in Miami and looking forward to getting home to decorate for Christmas. Joe switched on Elf for holiday vibes and the two strung lights and dressed the tree. “I brought out the box of specialty ornaments and handed her a silver one inside a red felt bag,” Joe says. After removing the ornament, she froze. It read: Ramya, will you marry me? “I was completely shocked,” she recalls. “I turned the ornament over and read it several times, but it wasn’t registering. Joe got down on one knee, but all I heard was “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” from Elf playing in the background,” she says, adding that she initially thought it was all a playful joke.
But, of course, it wasn’t. He asked her to marry him, and the rest is history. “I love that we got to keep it to ourselves and soak in it for a few hours before our friends and family knew,” Ramya adds.
As the couple began wedding planning, they chose to split the load down the middle. Decor was Ramya’s, food was Joe’s, and they curated music for each event together. “But when you’re producing a multi-cultural wedding for 350 guests across four distinct events, the only way to describe this process is Murphy’s Law,” Ramya says. Even through the inevitable chaos of timelines and budgets, the vision shone through in the end. “Funny enough,” Joe adds, “this was the first Indian wedding I had ever been to.”
