Presented by Bluemercury
There are many things you can do in Boston. You can wander through the historic Beacon Hill; you can catch a Red Sox game at Fenway Park; you could even go on a makeshift food tour in search of the perfect lobster roll. But for the skin-care obsessed, your interest might take you to the Chestnut Hill Bluemercury store for an exclusive masterclass with SkinCeuticals; or at least, that’s what happened to me—my ideal kind of Thursday afternoon.
As Bluemercury’s managing director of brand & communications Brooke Goodwin-Fullerton, tells me, moments like this one—combining of expertise, personalized service, and connection—is at the heart of the retailer. “Beauty is inherently sensorial, and that aspect of the experience can be lost while shopping online,” she says, whereas in store, you get a better idea how the formulas feel, and chat with its Beauty Experts along the way. “Our goal is for every client to leave feeling supported, more knowledgeable, and more confident about their beauty routine, but also that they’ve had a genuinely personalized experience.”
You can ask them all your burning questions, get personalized product recommendations, or in this case, learn all there is to know about your favorite brand’s bestsellers. All of the above was on the agenda last week as I stepped inside the impeccably well-lit store for the Bluemercury x SkinCeuticals event. Two of the usual product tills were transformed into makeshift vanities for about a dozen beauty lovers to test an assortment of serums and creams.
The Masterclass
Despite the complex, technological innovations that power SkinCeuticals formulas, the masterclass had a relaxed vibe, which I think was the point. All in attendance—whether new to the brand or eager to discover something—simply wanted a conversational experience to demystify the scientific aspect that backs the brand’s formulas. Fortunately, we had an excellent teacher: SkinCeuticals educator Cori Ramos led us through an entire routine, sharing her insights along the way.
Anyone who arrived with makeup on, like myself, had the chance to prepare a clean slate with one of two SkinCeuticals cleansers: Simply Clean gel for me and my oily skin, or Gentle Cleanser for those in-need of something more nourishing. Then, we turned to our stack of testers as Ramos led us through the next steps: applying the AGE Advanced Eye cream and the Triple Lipid Restore moisturizer, explaining what each product does along the way. I took a peek inside our goodie bags and also found SkinCeuticals-branded reusuable undereye patches plus a gua sha, the latter of which she gave a depuffing tutorial for.
