Having an older sister rocks—so says one. Depending on the age difference, there’s an archive of clothes waiting to be pillaged. Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian often share clothes (and who could forget that infamous KUWTK showdown between Kylie and Kendall in Palm Springs over borrowing from Kourtney), but this wardrobe raid has been particularly major.
Jenner recently posted a YouTube vlog that got behind the scenes of her prep for vacation in Saint-Tropez: it starts with a trip to the Alo gym, before giving followers a look at what’s going in her suitcase. Racks and racks of colorful clothes, stacks of shoes and bags are laid out for her to try on and check the tailoring. First, she tries on a vintage white floral Chloé dress with a bow on the bodice. She also shows us a quick glimpse of a yellow animal-print Roberto Cavalli gown. But before that, there’s an almost-neon yellow, body-contouring gown with sculptural cups and a tie-up corset that, for some, might seem a little familiar.
Let’s cast our minds back to 2018. It’s just after the Met Gala, where Kim Kardashian met the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme in a custom liquid gold Versace chainmail gown which featured opulently embroidered cross motifs. It was directly inspired by the Byzantine details in a fall 1997 Versace couture show. Not even 24 hours later, Kim was back again in another statement gown. She attended a dinner in a detailed recreation of Gianni Versace’s 1994 runway look as worn by model Yasmeen Ghauri: a canary yellow dress with a super-high thigh slit, plunging neckline, and bodice contoured with ribbons.
