Easy to add to existing routine
Bakuchiol is essentially the plant-derived, “Sceptic-friendly” version of retinol. It’s extracted from the babchi plant and has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, which is a nice touch considering everyone usually credits the Korean beauty market for this kind of thing. Made in China makes sense here.Clinical trials actually back this up, showing it can mimic retinol’s ability to handle wrinkles and pigmentation but without the burny feeling and skin peeling.The primary utility of this concentrate is the ability to add it to a toner or moisturizer you’re already deploying. I love the modularity of being able to upgrade a standard product without needing a whole new “full product” system. I like not having to toss what I already like. But I am concerned about whether throwing this into the rest of the kitchen sink will cause a reaction or lose benefits if I combine it with something else that’s doing the same job.As for the price point, in high-end formulations, purified Bakuchiol is a “serious piece of kit” that usually commands a high price. There is also “Bakuchi Seed Oil,” which is the less effective, much cheaper version of the hardware. It’s impossible to know what product contains which so I always tend to keep my auditor hat on and sometimes that involves looking at the big picture.This formulation was super easy to mix with all kinds of creams or toners..see video. No separation, no oily film on top. Here I am mixing it with a very basic ceramide moisturizer which I always thought was quite pasty feeling. The Viktairy Serum didn’t change the feel at all. Didn’t add more slip or shine, which is a good thing. As for efficacy it’s hard to say with any certainty as to weather it’s working until at least a few months. I am experiencing some lightening of dark spots but I can’t fully attribute it to the Bakuchiol or the Vit C product I use in the AM. Maybe the 2 products are working in tandem to lighten my melasma without burning my skin. At least after using for weeks I no bad reactions at all. That’s a good sign.
