Of course, while we’d all been keeping a keen eye out for her arrival, we were equally eager to see what she’d wear. As Vogue noted here, the Princess’s Wimbledon wardrobe falls loosely into four categories. There are the ones that nod to tennis whites (see: the pleated Temperley dress she chose for her first Centre Court appearance as a newlywed); the polka dots (her staple summer print); the Wimbledon greens (she is, after all, a patron of the lawn); and the wild cards (like the mint Balmain blazer she debuted in 2023).

After last year’s tennis-whites-inspired look—a prim, belted jacket and plissé skirt by Self-Portrait—this year saw Kate return to wildcard territory. The Princess opted for an amply cut, breezy double-breasted suit in periwinkle-blue wool, the formality of its peak-lapels counterposed by its easy styling: the jacket was left open over a simple ribbed white crew-neck T-shirt. The bold splash of color is merely the latest in a run of more extroverted looks from the royal, following the sunshine-yellow ensemble she wore to Royal Ascot just a fortnight ago. If today’s appearance is anything to go by, a strong precedent has been set for her Wimbledon wardrobe over the days ahead.
