Reem Acra hasn’t officially begun her market appointments yet, but is already close to selling out of her evening gowns for spring. She’s also had a celebrity client come in to try on her new collection, which is a telltale sign of the its success. “For this season I focused on what sells really well,” explained Acra. “The “wow” pieces from my collection are almost gone.”
Acra is one of the anomalies of the current age of fashion. Despite evening wear’s growing decline in the market, the designer keeps on pursuing her passions and is clearly having success doing so. While she does have kaftans for those who want to dip their toes into the Acra world without completely diving in, her best selling pieces remain her ultra glamorous gowns. To make things a bit more easygoing for those who do want to invest in her pieces, she tried some removable trains and sashes for her gowns. You can wear them as in the lookbook and go full glam, or remove the accessories for those days when you don’t want to do too much.
Despite not being so involved in the rest of the “ready-to-wear” industry, one thing the designer is keeping up with is fashion’s new obsession with color. Rather than a bold primary color palette, she opted for lighter and fun pastels for spring.
