October isn’t just the month for moody manicures and plaid; it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And one day in October is especially meaningful: October 13, Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Awareness Day.
And one initiative has helped the awareness of the day go mainstream: an annual event that shines light on the cause—quite literally. During #LightUpMBC, almost 325 landmarks in all 50 states and more than 195 cities around the world light up in green, pink, and teal, the colors of the breast-cancer-awareness ribbon that goes beyond pink.
To mark the occasion this year, Broadway performer Kara Lindsay, a breast cancer survivor whose credits include Wicked and Newsies, and motivational speaker Tami Eagle Bowling, who’s living with metastatic breast cancer, will host #LightUpMBC Live, a livestreamed production that raises awareness of metastatic breast cancer, which is incurable, and raises funds to benefit METAvivor, a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to funding research and providing support for people with MBC.

The event will feature inspiring stories from MBC thrivers and the people who love them, plus performances by two-time Tony winner Victoria Clark, singer Christina Bianco, actor and singer Dorian Harewood, award-winning singer-songwriter Cassandra Kubinski, and voiceover artist and guitarist Tony Daniels.
