Election day is upon us. Not 24 hours before the midterm elections, New York Times Congressional Correspondent and occasional Vogue essayist Annie Karni stopped by The Run-Through to chat with Chloe and Taylor Antrim about the possible outcomes of some of this year’s most contentious races.
With an eye toward the major races in Alaska, Michigan, Florida, Texas, and Maine, Karni laid out what the first 100 hours and beyond might look like for Hakeem Jeffries if Democrats take back the House. The midterms are also a time to look ahead at the 2028 election cycle, and the group discussed the possibility of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez running for President. Karni also weighed in on the question of another Trump impeachment. “It’s going to be a frustrating topic all of next year,” she said. “Impeachment is one of the things that’s not a unifying position.”
They also revisited Karni’s popular Vogue story from earlier this year, about compulsively telling everyone from Chuck Schumer to Steve Bannon about her divorce. As a reporter, Karni isn’t accustomed to writing about herself, so the experience gave her a greater appreciation for those who do. “I didn’t really mean to be brave, but a lot of people said I was brave,” she said, chuckling. “But mostly I was overwhelmed by people sharing their own stories. People clearly found it relatable.”
