Camila Morrone was seven-years-old when she got to see her first soccer game: it was a friendly match between Argentina and Mexico in Los Angeles. “My dad used to be a goalie, and he basically forced me to try out for [the] high school soccer team freshman year—I got in, but I was terrible,” she tells Vogue. Growing up, game days were spent at Argentinian friends’s houses or an Argentine bar, enjoying empanadas, sándwich de miga, alfajores, and dulce de leche.

Yesterday, the Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen actor traveled to Dallas for the Argentina vs. Jordan game, which was also her first-ever World Cup match. “The pride I feel for Argentina [and] this team is unfathomable,” she says. “It’s literally in my blood! I had no choice!”

Morrone hopped on a flight to Texas and had a quick turnaround to get to her first experience of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Argentina’s final group match. She played Latin music to get in the mood while she chose her outfit—a reworked, one-shoulder and cropped Argentina football top with low-rise white jeans and a bucket hat—and did her makeup. She FaceTimed her family back home in Argentina on the way to the game.

In the stadium, she joined her pals, swiping the face paint her mom gave her onto them liberally. And it was Gol! Gol! Gol! Lionel Messi made history when he came off the bench to score in Argentina’s 3-1 victory over Jordan. (The football legend and national hero’s sixth goal of this tournament makes him the first man to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches.)

“I have to say I’ve never felt anything like the moment Messi got off the bench to warm up and the crowd in the stadium erupted,” Morrone says. “It was electric! Nobody does it like Argentinians.”

Below, Camila Morrone takes Vogue on her special trip to the World Cup. It was sueño cumplido: a dream come true.
