In case you haven’t noticed, ’70s hair trends are back in full force and influencing some of our favorite modern hairstyles for 2026. We’ve seen chops inspired by Stevie Nicks, Jane Birkin, Diana Ross, Cher, and Farrah Fawcett enjoying modern revivals recently, which proves the fashion world’s infatuation with ’70S styling is only growing deeper.

There’s something just so delicious about a decade that brought us both uninhibited boho style and uproarious disco flair. The 10 years that followed the Swinging Sixties gave us bell bottom jeans, the Equal Pay Act, and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors. A pretty formidable era, if you ask us. Fashion has been so inspired by the decade that ’70s blouses, flared jeans, pendant necklaces, clogs, and other hallmarks of the time period have all made a comeback in recent seasons.

Of course, it was only time until that extended to hair inspo too. The ’70s was all about undone texture with disco-inspired oomph or a rocker’s edge. From choppy shags to fluffy ’fros and swooshy lash-skimming bangs, ’70s hair trends are all about liberated hair with a whole lot of attitude.

Below, we’ve rounded up the best ’70s hair trends making a comeback right now. Just find some flared jeans and a folksy fringed jacket to go with them, and you’ll be the most stylish girl in the group chat.

    The shag

The shag became a symbol of the ’70s among hippies and rockers. The mussy, choppy, layered cut was a favorite with famous musicians like Stevie Nicks and Blondie. Today it has recruited new muses like Suki Waterhouse and Mika Abdalla.

“I’m a big fan of the shag; it’s such an iconic ’70s look,” says hairstylist George Northwood. “This style adds lots of volume and texture to the hair, which is great for those finer hair types. It’s a very cool-girl cut and can really update your whole style. To give it a bit more of a modern edge, I would ask your hairdresser to stay away from too many layers as that can make it feel quite dated. Instead, make it all about that big statement sweeping fringe.”
